How We Review
At Vaping Cheap, our review process is designed to help adult readers compare vape-related products, brands, and offers with clarity and confidence. We use a consistent methodology so readers can understand how we evaluate products, what matters most in our rankings, and where affiliate relationships fit into the process.
Our goal is to publish reviews that are useful, transparent, and grounded in real evaluation rather than promotional language. Reviews always consist of hands on “in the trenches” testing of products. Depending on the page and the product, that evaluation may also include; comparison research, merchant policy checks, statements from other reviewers or from the community, and product specification review.
Our review principles
- We provide clear explanations for why a product received the rating it did.
- We use a transparent system for reviewing and rating products.
- Our review process is transparent, consistent, and focused on buyer value rather than hype.
- Reviewers spend sufficient time using each product before assigning a rating.
We do not rank products based on payout potential. Reviewers receive a flat fee for each review, and compensation is never tied to ratings, rankings, or affiliate earnings. While affiliate relationships help support the site, they do not influence editorial recommendations or review scores.
How we choose what to review
We prioritize products and categories based on reader interest, search demand, market relevance, availability, price changes, and questions we see from readers. We also cover products that are newly launched, widely discussed, or especially important within a category.
For vape-related and nicotine-related content, we take extra care to keep the tone factual and avoid unsupported claims. When the topic involves health, safety, or regulation, we aim to be especially precise and transparent about what we can and cannot verify.
Our rating rubric
| Criterion | Weight | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Overall Value | 24% | Price relative to quality, features, performance and overall usefulness. |
| Performance | 18% | Battery life, Vapor Production, Flavor quality/accuracy, ect. |
| Quality | 14% | Durability, materials, in hand feel |
| Design/Selection | 12% | Visual Appearance, ergonomics, Variety of options or flavors available. |
| Wild Card (Reviewers Choice) | 10% | The reviewer gets to choose how, why, and if this gets applied. |
| Brand | 10% | Reputation, consistency, and market presence. |
| Support/Warranty | 6% | Customer service, returns/warranty, and merchant/manufacturer support. |
| Market Fit | 6% | Is there a need for the product? Does it fit a specific use case? |
This rubric is meant to guide the review, not replace it. A product that scores well overall may still have tradeoffs worth noting, and a product with a smaller audience may still be a strong recommendation for the right reader.
How we test
- Order or access the product when possible.
- Inspect packaging, labeling, and presentation.
- Compare with similar products in the category.
- Check merchant policies, shipping, and returns.
- Cross-check specs with brand and retailer sources.
- Separate firsthand testing from research-based findings.
We evaluate products based on in-hand, real-world use, and never only rely on manufacturer marketing. In addition, we do a lot of product research including; comparison research, merchant policy checks, statements from other reviewers or from the community, product specification review, whether it matches the description, and how it compares with similar items on the market.
Research-based reviews
In some instances, like “first look” articles, the product is not available to have in-hand yet. In that case we rely on a research-based process. That can include manufacturer information, retailer details, product pages, public consumer feedback, and broader category research and comparison.
When a review is primarily research-based, we try to make that clear. Readers should know whether a page reflects firsthand testing, editorial analysis, or a combination of both.
How affiliate links work
Some pages on Vaping Cheap contain affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Those relationships do not determine how we rank or recommend products. We disclose affiliate relationships clearly and separately from the review itself so readers can understand the commercial relationship without searching for it. Reviewers compensation is never tied to ratings or affiliate earnings.
Updates and corrections
We regularly update reviews when pricing, availability, specifications, or merchant policies change. If we find an error or discover a better way to explain something, we correct the page and update it when appropriate.
Not every change is a correction. Some changes are routine updates for price, stock status, or product availability. If a change materially affects our recommendation, we aim to reflect that clearly in the article.
Limitations
No review process can guarantee that every product will suit every reader. Preferences vary, availability changes, and merchants may update their offerings without notice.
We encourage readers to verify key details before purchasing. If you believe a review contains an error or should be updated, please contact us through the site’s contact page.
Why this page exists
This methodology page exists to make our process visible, consistent, and easier to trust. We want readers to understand how we work, what we value, and how we separate editorial judgment from commercial relationships.
