Wotofo Troll RTA Review

Wotofo Troll RTA Review

Wotofo Troll RTA Review

The Wotofo Troll RDA is very popular among vapers as it was one of the most affordable authentic atomizers on the market. Then Wotofo released the Troll V2 which brought major improvements over the previous version, and still kept an affordable price tag. Now, Wotofo has released the newest addition to the Troll lineup, the Troll RTA.

Before getting any further, I would like to thank Wotofo for sending this atomizer my way for the purposes of this review. I will go over my first impressions, building and wicking, performance, pros and cons, and conclude with whether or not I recommend the Troll RTA!

Out of the box

Just like most other Wotofo products, the Troll RTA comes in very nice packaging. The packaging itself is quite similar to previous Wotofo products, except this packaging has a different color scheme, and states the name of this specific atomizer. The Wotofo Troll RTA is available in two colors, which are stainless steel and black. Both of the colors look great in my opinion.

Upon sliding the package open, you are greeted with the new Wotofo Troll RTA and a replacement glass tank section. The included spare glass tank section is a huge pro in my book! My first impressions of the Troll RTA is that it’s not too big nor is it too small. This atomizer does sport an overall base diameter of 24mm, which is the size of most newer atomizers being released on the market. I do like the overall design of the Troll RTA. It really is a good looking atomizer.

The design of the Wotofo Troll RTA is not the same as typical RTAs. The deck section sits in the middle rather than on top like an RDTA or on the bottom like a traditional RTA.

Included in the packaging you also receive a screwdriver, a bag of spare parts with screws and different colored o-rings, Japanese cotton, three pre-wrapped Fused Clapton coils, a user manual, and the usual Wotofo T-Shirt giveaway card. I’m glad they included Fused Claptons rather than Twisted Coils, and I’m sure many will agree. Also, it gives newer vapers the chance to experience this type of coil build, which is a pro in my opinion.

Wotofo Troll RTA Review

The Wotofo Troll RTA does feature adjustable bottom airflow, which is very easy to adjust. In addition, this atomizer features a wide bore delrin top cap, which is a pro in my opinion, as I do prefer delrin over stainless steel. However, this atomizer does not include a 510 drip tip adapter, so you cannot use your own 510 drip tips. This is certainly a con, especially for those vapers who love using their own 510 drip tips. It is not a major con by any means, but still has to be mentioned.

Taking apart the Wotofo Troll RTA was easy, and nothing was overly tightened. On the barrel section, which screws into the deck section, there is a Troll engraving which certainly adds to the overall look of this tank.

Also, this atomizer came clean with no machine oil whatsoever, which is a huge pro in my book! I do hate when atomizers come drenched in machine oil as it can take a long time for it to come off completely. One wash with warm water and this tank was good to go!

The overall build quality of the Troll RTA is great, especially considering its price point. All of the threads were smooth, and I had no issues with either color.

All in all, my first impressions of the Wotofo Troll RTA were positive! The machining was great, and it surely is a good looking atomizer.

Building and Wicking

The Troll RTA does feature a unique build deck, and it is kind of similar to a velocity styled build deck, but still different. There are four post holes just like a velocity styled build, but there is a piece of Peek Insulator right in the middle of it to separate the positive and negative.

Since it is quite similar to a velocity styled build deck, it is really easy to install builds. I was able to fit a Fused Clapton build with no issues whatsoever. However, I think you may have issues fitting really large builds such as Staple Coils or Staggered Fused Claptons. I do want to mention that the screws are very small, so make sure not to over tighten them, as you can possibly strip them. This is a con in my opinion, and I do wish the screws were slightly larger.

Once your build is installed, you don’t really have to worry about centering it, because of how the deck is designed. When installing your coils, you can easily maneuver it to wherever you want, and how far or close you want it to the airflow. The airflow itself is similar to that of the Kennedy RDA.

I could easily get a build installed and ready for wicking within a few minutes, that’s how easy it is to build on the Troll RTA. Both beginners and advanced users won’t have any issues with installing coils on this atomizer.

Wotofo Troll RTA Review

I do want to mention that this is a dual coil only RTA, which may be a con to some vapers. This is subjective of course.

Wicking the Troll RTA is fairly easy as well. There are 4 wicking channels in total. I found the best way to wick this atomizer is cutting the cotton by the edge of the build deck, and gently tucking your cotton into the wicking channels. Be sure not to over-stuff the wicking channels, as this can cause wicking issues.

Also, make sure to fluff your cotton, as this does help with wicking. Once you are finished wicking, you should see the cotton just poking out of the wicking channels. You can typically see them once you have the tank reassembled.

Wicking the Wotofo Troll RTA is pretty straightforward, and I don’t think vapers will have much issues with it. As long as you do not overstuff the wicking channels with cotton, you’re good to go!

All in all, building and wicking the Wotofo Troll RTA is pretty easy! Beginners won’t really have any issues with it, and I know for sure experienced users will find build and wicking this atomizer a breeze.

Performance

Wotofo is known for releasing RTAs with excellent flavor, and I must say, the Troll RTA is no different! The performance of the Wotofo Troll RTA is fantastic!

My preferred build for this RTA was a dual Clapton build (24GA Kanthal/34GA Kanthal) which had a resistance of 0.38 ohm. The wattage I would vape this build was between 60w and 85w. At higher wattages I got a warm vape, and the flavor was excellent. At lower wattages, the vape was slightly cooler, but the flavor was still great!

I did try other build such as Fused Claptons, 24GA Kanthal, 24GA Ni80 and a few others, which also performed well. I do think this RTA shines with larger builds such as Claptons, but normal round wire builds will work just fine if that is something you prefer.

The delrin wide bore drip tip was very comfortable to use, and it never got hot which is to be expected since it is delrin. After vaping on this RTA for a bit, it didn’t really bother me that I couldn’t use any 510 drip tips.

The airflow on the Wotofo Troll RTA is nice and smooth. I preferred to vape this RTA wide open. When it is wide open, there is a slight restriction which I do enjoy. When closing off the airflow half way, there is even more restriction, and the flavor does intensify. However, with my preferred build, I liked the airflow fully open.

The vapor production off of this RTA was quite impressive as well. It does deliver with no issues, especially with a Clapton or Fused Clapton build. You surely won’t be disappointed with the vapor production off of this atomizer.

Wotofo Troll RTA Review

The Wotofo Troll RTA has a large 5ml e-liquid capacity, and does feature a top fill design. A pro to be mentioned is that even though the entire top cap is delrin, they made the area where the threads are stainless steel; therefore you don’t really have to worry about stripping. The fill ports are of a generous size, so filling this tank is easy, and you won’t have any issues with any type of e-liquid bottle.

Honestly, I was surprised that this RTA has a 5ml e-liquid capacity. Like mentioned previously, this atomizer isn’t small nor is it overly large. However, even though the Troll RTA has a 5ml e-liquid capacity, I could easily vape through the entire tank in under an hour, especially with my preferred coil build. Thankfully, filling it is very easy.

Also, I experienced zero dry hits. This tank just kept up with wicking even when chain vaping at higher wattages. Once wicked properly, the Troll RTA has no issues with wicking. In addition, the e-liquid I was vaping was 80VG/20PG, so if you vape higher VG e-liquids, you won’t have any issues! In addition, I did not experience any leaking whatsoever, which is another huge pro.

I do want to mention that this RTA does not have any type of juice flow control, which may be a con to some vapers. I’m not sure if juice flow control would be possible with this RTA due to its design as it is not a typical RTA.

All in all, the performance of the Wotofo Troll RTA is fantastic. Every time I took a vape it was flavorful and satisfying!

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Easy to build and wick
  • Great flavor and vapor production
  • Includes many extras
  • Delrin top cap
  • Large e-liquid capacity
  • Easy top fill design

Cons

  • Cannot use your own preferred 510 drip tips
  • Small post screws
  • Does not support single coil builds
  • No juice flow control (not sure if this is possible due to its design)

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Wotofo Troll RTA is another solid product coming from Wotofo. Wotofo is consistently delivering excellent products, and continue to impress us. Not to mention, everything Wotofo releases is quite affordable!

The flavor off of this RTA is excellent, and it doesn’t lack in vapor production either! I experienced zero leaking, and it wicked like a dream.

I didn’t really find any major cons to this atomizer, and I did try quite hard to find them. I know for sure some vapers may have an issue with not being able to use their own 510 drip tips and the fact that this is a dual coil only RTA. Honestly, neither of these cons are deal breakers in my opinion.

The overall performance of this RTA is stellar, and this atomizer is a great addition to the Troll lineup! Honestly, I can’t wait to see what’s next from Wotofo.

All in all, the Wotofo Troll RTA is a great atomizer. If you’re in the market for a new RTA, I can easily recommend the Troll RTA!
